West London Churches Homeless Concern

West London Churches Homeless Concern relieves poverty among street homeless people in West London by providing accommodation, advice and support. Each winter since 1999, churches of different denominations in West London have provided the venues for our night shelter. Many other churches provide financial and in-kind support.

We provide:

  • London’s largest winter night shelter – 35 to 70 bed spaces every night between November and April
  • year-round daytime services including laundry, clothing and washing facilities from our base in Chelsea
  • a casework service – offering advice, advocacy and practical support to shelter guests
  • information on support services for homeless people in West London.

It is our ethos to provide our services in a welcoming, inclusive and non-judgemental way and welcome all who come through our doors.

The project is supported by over 300 volunteers who not only help make and serve food, but sit with guests during meals.

Funding comes from charitable trusts, numerous local churches, businesses and many individuals who feel moved to support our work. Their generosity allows us to continue to serve the most vulnerable in the community. This year’s fundraising target is £300,000, a significant increase on previous years. The increase will fund an expanded night shelter circuit with a capacity of up to 70 people, a plan put forward in response to constant oversubscription of the current service. Please help us achieve our goals by donating online and encouraging friends and family to do the same.

The video will give you an insight into the work we do and the challenges faced by the people we support. The project was volunteer-led, and huge thanks are due the many individuals who agreed to take part, including Lord Harries who provided the introduction, Procol Harum organist Josh Phillips who composed the score and BBC correspondent Hugh Pym who narrated. Special thanks are due to director/producer Suzy Carter and cameraman Paddy Steel. This moving video has the stamp of their professionalism and hard work.
